Meet our potential new MPs!
Mon 18 Apr 2016On Monday 18th April we went to visit the Houses of Parliament to learn about what happens there and get ideas for our own school council. We had a tour round and saw such amazing sights. We saw the House of Commons and the House of Lords and learnt how laws in our country are passed. We saw the Queen’s robing room where she gets ready when she visits there. We even saw a gold throne, which is worth £22 million!
It was such an interesting day. Ms. Wiltshire has decided she would like to be an MP too! After our tour we had a chance to ask our local MP (Gareth Johnson) lots of questions. We grilled him on many issues including, why our school is a polling station, the lack of primary school places in Dartford, lack of doctors, too many new houses, Fairfield pool, immigration, the NHS, events in Dartford and many other topics.
We definitely got our voice heard!

Get Writing!
Thu 07 Apr 2016Young writers
As a school we are always looking at ways to encourage our children to expand and grow. We want our children to be successful and confident in what they do. This is why we are promoting the many writing competitions that are available on-line, these vary in age groups as well as genre and so the children can enter those that suit them the most.
We are also looking at organising some school writing competitions in the future, which we will keep you posted on.
Listed below are some of the organisations that run frequent writing competitions, if your child is interested in entering any of the competitions they can as an individual and don’t need to be included in a school entry.
- Young Writers: https://www.youngwriters.co.uk/
- BBC Radio: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00rfvk12
- National Literacy Trust: http://www.literacytrust.org.uk/schools_teaching/competitions
We hope you find this information interesting and will encourage some of our budding authors to rise to the challenge.
Happy Writing and Good Luck!!!

Fantastic New EYFS Area!
Sun 03 Apr 2016Towards the end of Term 4, I eagerly organised a parent working party to help redo our EYFS outdoor classroom area. Letters had been sent out to parents inviting them into school on either Tuesday 29th April or Wednesday 30th April. Lunch was to be provided and all sorts of materials had been brought into school, donated towards the makeover.
We excitedly anticipated the days which would turn such a great space into the perfect area for children to learn through play, deeply engaging into all the many different areas that we had planned to create but mostly enjoying their days at school. We had over 25 people who gave up their time to come in and help out in so different ways. We were able to build, reorganise, clean, paint, laugh, build relationships, eat and started to dream up even bigger plans, thanks to these very special helpers.
On Wednesday evening, when tools were packed away and staff sat reminiscing, on what could only be described as the most incredible outcome, we couldn’t help but think of how the Reception children were going to just love their new outdoor classroom and what special memories were going to be made whilst using all the new areas for learning.
I would like to personally, once again thank each and every person who gave up their time to come in and be part of such a fantastic project. From people who delivered donations, to spending an hour or more of their free time helping out, popping back in between errands, going off to the shops to buy extra bits, making trips to the ‘tip’, to giving up a whole day (or both) to help transform our EYFS outdoor classroom environment.
I confidently can say that your time has and will continue to make a massive impact in the Reception children’s learning. We have completed what seemed like a dream a few months ago and look forward to sharing out next project news with you soon.
With gratitude,
Mrs Alanah Maw
EYFS Assistant Head
