  • Accelerated Reader Rewards

    Tue 19 Sep 2017

    Dear and Parents and Carers,

As you are all aware, we have recently implemented Accelerated Reader across the school. This has been warmly received by pupils, staff and parents and the feedback has been positive. We have updated the school library, meaning we have lots of new books for the children to explore and to choose from.

From this year, we are going to link Accelerated Reader to our readathon. Rather than the number of ‘reads’ that a child records, as in previous years, we will be focusing on word counts. When a child finishes a book and takes a quiz, the number of words in the book is added to their overall total. Within school, we are having competitions to see which classes can read the most words each week and we will be keeping a whole school running total.

To reward children for their reading, we will award prizes for the number of words an individual reads. The prizes will be as follows:

    KS1

    KS2

    Bookmarks

    50,000 words

    250,000 words

    Books

    250,000 words

    500, 000 words

    Book token

    1, 000, 000 words

    1, 000, 000 words

If your child does become part of the ‘millionaires club’ (reads 1,000,000 words), their picture will also be displayed in school.

There are also certificates that children can earn, with set criteria by Accelerated Reader. This may include reading a set number of books or getting 80% or more on a set number of quizzes.

We hope that these incentives will continue to encourage your child to read and to promote reading for pleasure.

    Yours sincerely

    Miss Brown

  • Meet the Teacher

    Fri 08 Sep 2017

Of the afternoon of Thursday the 7th of September West Hill Primary Academy saw many parents and carers come along to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ event. It was wonderful to see some familiar faces attending, even though some didn’t want their photos taken, as well as meeting some new parents to our school. We hope that the presentation that the teachers had prepared was informative and useful in answering any queries that you may have had. In fact, we really appreciated some of the questions asked by you as they will definitely help our school become an even better school than it is already. Please don’t worry if you could not attend as all of the presentations are on the school website and we have extra copies if you would like to grab one from your child’s teacher.

  • BBQ

    Fri 08 Sep 2017

Thank you to everyone who came and supported our first big community event of the year - The West Hill BBQ!

A special thanks to all the staff and volunteers who helped out to make this a big success.

  • Meet the teacher

    Thu 07 Sep 2017

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope to see as many of you as possible at the Meet the Teacher sessions taking place at 3.30pm and 6pm today.

Please go straight to your child’s class with your child for these meetings.

The teachers will complete a short presentation giving information around expectations, events this year and there will be an opportunity to ask any questions.

If you have more than one child in the school, please attend one of the meetings and then go along to your other children’s class to pick up a handout and chat with the teacher.

All handouts will be available to access on the school website at the beginning of next week.

Teachers will be available from 3.30pm until 6.30pm tonight – the school will close at 6.30pm.

Thank you for your continued support.
