  • Hearing Screening Survey

    Wed 03 Mar 2021

We have been asked to share this survey with you on behalf of Kent County Council who are reviewing the school entry hearing screening programme.

Children in Reception Year are offered a school entry hearing screen by the Kent School Health Service in school or clinic. This year (and also last year) the programme has been delivered differently as a result of Covid-19 and families have been given the opportunity to opt into the programme if they have concerns about their child’s hearing.

If your child is in Year 2 please complete our 10-minute survey by the 12th of March 2021, so that your views can be included in any future plans for the screening programme.

  • School Updates

    Fri 02 Oct 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of another week, I have two more updates for you in relation to Coronavirus and how this affects the organisation of school.

Firstly, our risk assessment continues to highlight parents congregating and approaching members of staff as an area of risk.  With this in mind, we would now like to ask all parents to wear a face covering when they drop off or pick up their child, or when they are having a conversation with members of school staff.  The threat of the coronavirus being spread by close contact (less than 2 metres) is still very real, and we need to do everything we can to keep staff, parents and of course our children as safe as possible.  From Monday, please wear a face-covering when you are dropping off your child and when you are approaching members of staff, even for a brief conversation.

Secondly, I have been very unhappy with lunch organisation.  We changed the system to allow the maintaining of bubbles, but the packed lunches supplied by CH&Co, our meals provider, are simply not sufficient to keep our little ones and our bigger ones full and satisfied throughout the day.  I have been in constant contact with CH&Co and well as Kent County Council throughout this week, and we have now put in place a system which will allow children to maintain their class bubbles, whilst also receiving a hot meal.  All meals will be pre-served and placed in suitable takeaway containers, a picture of which I have attached to this email.  We have been able to organise lunch times with some children eating in the canteen (whilst still in their bubbles) and other children eating in their classrooms.  We have all the necessary hygiene procedures in place, but now, after a great deal of manoeuvring, we are able to offer a hot meal to all children, as well as maintain our Covid-safe bubbles.  I would also like to remind all parents that ALL children in Years R, 1 and 2 are entitled to a free school lunch, and I would urge as many parents as possible to opt in to this, so your child is receiving a hot lunch every day.  The menu for week commencing Monday 5th October is attached to this email.

I do apologise that this update is being received on a Friday, before changes take place on Monday, but I had to be very sure that all appropriate measures were in place to keep our children and staff as safe as possible.

    Kind regards,

    Garry Ratcliffe

  • School Update

    Tue 31 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you are all keeping well and safe in these uncertain times. Just a reminder that the school phone lines are open daily, 9am - 5pm. Do not hesitate to call if you require any assistance at all. If you have an emergency outside of these times, then please email Westhill999@galaxytrust.co.uk

Due to parent evening cancellations, your child's class teacher (Year 1 - Year 6 only, not Reception) has written an end of Term 4 report. These have been posted today using 2nd class post. They should be with you by the end of the week. Please email the class teacher if you have any questions about the content of these reports and they will get back to you within 72 hours.

We have been amazed at the response to Class Dojo; the majority of parents have signed up and are actively engaging with the tasks set by teachers. If you haven't signed up yet, please do. There is no expectation to do all of the activities, but if we can communicate with your child regularly we know they are safe. I will be calling any families that have not signed up this week to find out if there is a problem, fix any issues where possible  and ensure children are safe and well. The creativity and standard of information uploaded so far has been extremely impressive! Well done West Hill - it is so important to stay connected.

The teachers will not be uploading tasks over the Easter holidays, but Mrs Wickenden (West Hill's RE Leader) will be posting some whole school fun suggestions to do as a family. Any work can be uploaded to class stories and teachers can then share on the school story. We can't wait to see what you produce! Teachers will be uploading again from the 16th April onwards, so please sign back in if you are having a Dojo break over the Easter period.

Please, please keep safe; heed government advice, practise social distancing, wash those hands and stay in touch. We are missing the whole school community loads and can't wait to get the West Hill Family all back safe and sound.

  • Message from the Education Secretary

    Sun 22 Mar 2020

“You should only send your child to school on Monday if you have to, because your work is critical to our COVID-19 response.  If you are able to keep your child at home, you should.” Gavin Williamson, Education Secretary.

  • Nite Owls

    Fri 07 Feb 2020

Dear Parents and Carers of Reception children,

Next Thursday 13th February, Night Owls will be visiting Reception. We would like to invite Year 1 to join the Reception children for this experience. The Night Owl team will be giving a presentation using their trained birds of prey. The school is not being charged for the visit, however you will have the opportunity to purchase a photograph of your child holding a beautiful Barn Owl, which is a lovely souvenir of what will be a fantastic experience for the children. The organisation try to make the photographs as reasonably priced as possible and you will be able to purchase one 7x5 print with mount for £8.00 or two 7x5 prints with mount for £10.00 (enlargements are also available). There is no obligation for you to purchase these photographs. Please do not send money in before our visit as a proof copy of the photo will be sent out after the event with the option to purchase at that point.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience these amazing birds and I’m sure it will be an exciting visit for all.

    Many thanks,
