What have Simmonds Class been up to?
Stargazers Engage Week
In Simmonds Class this term we have started our new topic. The topic is ‘Stargazers!’ We kicked off by creating a to-scale model of the solar system. We used tissue paper squares to measure the distance between the planets. This proved a challenge as the wind was blowing away the tissue paper, however we worked as a team to complete the task.
Do you know the order of the planets?
We created mnemonics to help us to remember. Here is one of them…

Astrodome
We had a visitor come into school with an astrodome. It was amazing! We had to climb into the dome, which was a bit like a huge tent, through a small door. We were taken on a journey into space where we learnt about the stars and planets. We watched real footage from space and learnt a little bit about the history of the solar system.
