Our class is named after the footballer, David Beckham. He has played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, LA Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and the England national team. Beckham is the first English player to win league titles in four countries: England, Spain, USA and France. One of his most memorable career moments is his red card in the 1998 World Cup match against Argentina. Many supporters and journalists blamed him for England’s elimination from the World Cup and he became the target of criticism and abuse, including death threats to both him and his family, as well as the hanging of an effigy outside a London pub. Beckham has explained that it was one of the darkest moments of his life. Instead of giving up, David demonstrated a growth mindset, and overcame the abuse, to lead a successful carer in football, which included setting up his own football academy.
